Star Citizen
Cloud Imperium Games
Senior Level Designer
Nov. 2014 - Nov. 2018
Working at Cloud Imperium Games as a Senior Level Designer on Star Citizen, my role took me beyond designing and building some of the key levels in the single player portion of the game, as it also allowed me to work and feedback on the main mechanics, features and tools used by the rest of the team to build the Goliath that is the narrative-driven Squadron 42 and the open-world Persistent Universe.
Starting out as a Junior Level Design, I rose quickly through the ranks of Mid-level to Senior Level Designer as I continued to establish myself as a core member of the design team.
Other duties on-top of my own work load included running teams of artists and designers, establishing setup conventions, and training up new-starters in everything from the studio’s design principles to it’s work practices.
My work involved:
Design and set up of some of the major levels of the single player campaign ranging from linear scripted levels to more open hub levels.
Working closely with artists to develop levels.
Creation of a level’s unique set-pieces and exotic gameplay.
Being product owner for cross-discipline teams of art, design and code which cover development of levels and systems used throughout the game, and communicating the team’s updates to leads and company directors of all disciplines on a regular basis.
Set up of combat encounters in both scripted and free-form settings.
Helping guide the set up of ambient and scripted AI throughout the game that best fits Star Citizen’s unique criteria.
Help develop new systems and tech that allow us to achieve our gameplay and narrative goals.
Establish and maintain set up practices for various facets of development.
Training of new starters in the tools and design ethics of CIG.

In this video I talk with my fellow devs about the design theory that I helped shape for our ambient AI in one of Squadron 42's hub environments - the Idris.
